Google Gmail Hacked By Chinese?

It appears that hackers have targeted Google email accounts belonging to U.S. government officials. According to a statemnet released by Google they appear to have pinpointed the origin of the "phising activity to Jinan in China.

The statement reads in part "This campaign, which appears to originate from Jinan, China, affected what seem to be the personal Gmail accounts of hundreds of users including, among others, senior U.S. government officials, Chinese political activists, officials in several Asian countries (predominantly South Korea), military personnel and journalists."

The Chinese foreign ministry has come out with strong language rejecting these claims saying "blaming these misdeeds on China is unacceptable".
